The Song of Life

Noticing the basket among the reeds, she sent her handmaid to fetch it.

On opening it, she looked, and lo, there was a baby boy, crying! She was moved with pity ……..Exodus 2: 5, 6

My God, how precious is the gift of life,

A gift that you alone have given us.

As women, you give us the grace to nurture

This gift within, to bear and to bring forth,

To say yes to your gift and share it with all humanity.

As men, you give us the grace to father these little one,

To love and protect them always.

New life….

How can we ever take it for granted,

Cast it aside or say that it is anything but gift from you alone.

How magnificent you are my God,

And how wonderful are all your works.

"A great prayer for life is urgently needed, a prayer which will rise up throughout the world. Through special initiatives and in daily prayer, may an impassioned plea rise to God, the Creator and lover of life, from every Christian community, from every group and association, from every family and from the heart of every believer.”

– Pope John Paul II, The Gospel of Life (Evangelium Vitae), n. 100.
